The Archive building is located on a lot of irregular shape, the form of which conforms with the layout of the nearby roads. The project task prescribes surface of the building and number of floors. According to previous analyses, the lot should be fully used in order to meet the required parameters. The base of the building is polygonal, dimensions of the base being ~63x27m. The building is functionally divided in two dilated units: the administration unit (P+3) and depot units (Po+P+4). The main entrance is on the west side of the building, oriented towards the main street. The main entrance consists of a stairway and a wheelchair ramp which allows access to the disabled. Service and car entrance is on the east side of the building. The main hall is accessed from the entrance lobby and designed as a 12m high free space. The hall is connected with floors through a central three-way staircase. Between the first and the second floor, due to a difference in height of floors of the two functional units, the depot part of the facility is designed to have one more floor. Two RC ramps are designed to allow transfer of the archive material and horizontal communication between the two parts of the building. They are positioned on the first and the second floor and connect these floors with the depot. The ground floor of the building and the offices are oriented towards the street. Transparent glass surfaces emphasize the contrast against the solid structures of the building, which dominate and ‘communicate’ with the urban surrounding, which was one of the requirements of having a public facility in the middle of a residential area. The building is a freestanding structure of compact form accomplished by various facade surfaces. Dynamics of the facility is additionally emphasized by different height of cornices, due to the position of roof slopes. The form of the building consists of a mass of cubes crossing and facing each other. The masses are solid and their entire surface is made of the same facade coating. The uniformity of the facade is additionally emphasized when the shutters (protection from light) are closed. Perforations indicate the openings and at the same time limit the amount of light that enters the depot space.
